Myagdi. The Dimb Basic School at Beni Municipality-5 has started providing free residential facilities. Economically poor, poor and far-off students have been provided with food and accommodation facilities in schools. Narayan Poudel, principal of the school, said that the number of students has doubled after the free residential facility.
“On the one hand, the number of students in the school is decreasing due to the decrease in the class of the school, on the other hand, the students of the school age group are not able to study due to poverty, after collecting internal resources, residential facilities have been started with the start of the new academic session,” he said. ’
Poudel said that the number of students will increase till the end as the enrollment campaign is going on. Besides Chipleti, 25 students from neighbouring Nayagaon, Gandhe, Paiyupata, Dandakhet, Thamdanda and Jamire have started staying in the hostel.
Arrangements have been made for the students to sleep by making furniture in the classroom of the school building. Students living in the hostel have been provided with morning and evening food, clothes, bags, educational materials and shoes. The teachers have taken the responsibility of taking care of the students of the hostel on a daily basis. Poudel said that a teacher from private sources has been given the responsibility of cooking food by giving additional facilities.
Furniture, clothes and food items of the hostel have been managed from the internal fund of the school. Most of the children living in the hostel belong to the poor and Dalit communities. “We have come to the conclusion that the hostel will be operated after the children who are good at studies also come to school hungry due to the poverty of the parents and have to spend the day on the basis of lunch,” poudel said. ’
Poudel said that although it is challenging, it can be continued if we get support from Beni municipality, community and donors for running the hostel. Beni Municipality had made preparations to reduce the class as the number of students in the school, which has classes up to class 5, has been decreasing lately.
