Kaski. The road from Harichowk to Yamdi Bridge in Pokhara section of the under-construction Mid-Hill Highway is being upgraded. The work of blacktopping the four-lane road of this section is currently underway.
According to the Mid-Hill Highway Project Office, the work of pitching the road using ‘asphalt’ technology has been going on since the second week of April.
So far, one-way blacktopping from Harichowk to Jauwari check post has been completed. Kiran Subedi, information officer at the Mid-Hill Highway Project Office, said that one-and-a-half kilometers of the road has been blacktopped one-way. “One-way blacktopping is taking place on the Harichowk-Yamdi section. We are planning to complete the work in both the sections within the current fiscal year. ’
The Harichowk-Yamdi road will be 18 meters wide. Similarly, the project has 21 meters including the drain. In this section, the asphalt blackboard will be 15 cm thick. Due to the slow work of this road for a long time, the passengers traveling on the highway had to suffer.
Due to the delay in the construction of the 2 km 200 meter long road, the problem of dust in winter and mud in the rainy season made the journey difficult. As the construction of the road slowed down, the locals took to the road and pressed for speeding up the work.
Bhanubhakta Adhikari of Harichowk, Pokhara, expressed happiness that the blacktopping work has started late. He believes that it will be easier for them to suffer a lot due to lack of roads for a long time.
The Mid-Hill Highway Project Office, Parbat, had signed an agreement with Motidan Construction Service Pvt Ltd of Kathmandu in July 2019 to upgrade the road at a cost of Rs 480 million, including value added tax. Hundreds of public and private vehicles ply to Pokhara daily from Parbat, Baglung, Myagdi, Mustang, Rukum East and other districts.
