Surunga. Jhapa: The District Police Office, Jhapa has arrested three containers with paddy cutting machines (agricultural implements) that were brought without paying customs duty. Police Inspector at the District Police Office, Praveen Shrestha, informed that the value of the seized items was Rs 36.1 million.
Police arrested three Indian containers (NL 01 AH 5679, NL 01 N 9223 and NL 02 L 7486) while they were on their way to Nepal via Kakarbhitta from India on the East-West Highway at Birtamod Municipality-5 last night.
Acting on a tip-off, a team of police inspectors deputed from the District Police Office arrested him, said Police Inspector Shrestha. According to Shrestha, the police have been sent to the Revenue Investigation Office, Itahari for necessary action.
Mechi Customs Office has claimed that these goods are not illegal. Ram Chandra Dhungana, customs officer at mechi customs office, said the containers were imported in a regular manner by paying customs duty. He said that the container was brought from China and not from India.
