Kathmandu. Minister for Agriculture, Cooperatives and Livestock Development Ramnath Adhikari has said that 1.56 million saplings and saplings have been sold till mid-April of the current fiscal year. He said this while replying to the queries of lawmakers in the meeting of the House of Representatives on Monday.
He said that by the end of the current fiscal year, the target is to provide 500,000 sources of vegetables and fruits to the seedlings, plants, nurseries and resource centers in particular. Of these, 1.56 million saplings and saplings have already been distributed and the remaining targets will be completed in May and June, he said.
Fruits such as apples, walnuts, nuts, grapes, coconuts and pomegranates come to Nepal from India, China and other countries.
Minister Adhikari said, “By the end of the current fiscal year, the target is to provide 500,000 sources of vegetables and fruits to the seedlings, plants, nurseries and resource centers in particular. I would like to inform the honorable Parliament that the Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock Development keeps data regularly from the annual and customs points, in Nepal, fruits like apple, walnut, nuts, grapes, coconut, pomegranate come from India, China and other countries. ’
He said the import of food grains in the current fiscal year was Rs 47.8 billion and exports stood at Rs 62 million. Trade deficit in food crops stood at Rs 47.7 billion, vegetables at Rs 31.52 billion and exports at Rs 40.82 crore, he said, adding that imports of fruit crops stood at Rs 18.2 billion and exports at Rs 17 million.
Minister Adhikari said that the production of all the crops is expected to increase normally.
