Kathmandu. Minister for Women, Children and Senior Citizens Nawal Kishore Sah Sudi has said that those who do not have citizenship certificates cannot get social security allowance. He said this while replying to the questions raised by the lawmakers in the meeting of the House of Representatives on Monday.
According to him, the Social Security Act, 2075 bs and the Social Security Regulations, 2076 BS provide that in the case of many except children, the eligible person to receive the social security allowance along with a copy of the citizenship certificate has to present himself at the concerned ward office and submit the application in the prescribed format.
He urged the government to understand that there is a legal provision that people without citizenship certificate cannot get social security allowance. He urged the government to understand that the Ministry of Women, Children and Senior Citizens would not distribute citizenship certificates.
Minister Sudi said, “The Social Security Act, 2075 and the Social Security Regulations, 2076 bs provide that in the case of many except children, the eligible person to get social security allowance along with a copy of the certificate of citizenship has to present himself at the concerned ward office and submit the application in the prescribed format. Our ministry does not distribute citizenship certificates, it promotes it. The ministry of granting citizenship is the Ministry of Home Affairs and the CDO office. You will get a social security card only after obtaining a citizenship certificate. ’
Minister Sudi said that national and international non-governmental organizations should submit the project proposal in the prescribed format prescribed by the Social Welfare Council if they want to run the program in Nepal.
