Chitwan. Last week,20 percent of the banana cultivation here has been damaged due to the rain accompanied by the storm. Ghananath Mahato, president of the Banana Growers Association, Chitwan, said that bananas planted in the eastern and western parts of the district have been damaged.
According to him, banana cultivation in Kalika municipality, Chainpur, Birendranagar and Ratnanagar of eastern Chitwan on Wednesday and Thursday has been damaged. According to him, 15 to 20 percent of the damage has been caused in these areas. Due to the storm on Friday, banana cultivation has been damaged in Ward No. 23 and 26 of Bharatpur Metropolitan City. Similarly, the Thimura area of Bharatpur has also been damaged.
Madhav Ghimire of Kalika Municipality, who has been cultivating bananas, said that the storm damaged the banana at the time of taking the production. Information Officer of The Prime Minister Agriculture Modernization Project Implementation Unit, Chitwan, Rabi Kiran Adhikari, said that details of the damage caused to banana cultivation by the storm are being collected.
Currently, malbhog, sugar champa and G-9 varieties of banana are cultivated in the district. More than 700 farmers have been cultivating banana in more than 3,000 bighas of land.
