Myagdi. Myagdi: A composite wall has been constructed at Singa Tatopani of Beni municipality-4 in Myagdi district to control river erosion and flooding. The Irrigation and Water Resources Management Project Pokhara and the Water Resources, Irrigation and Drinking Water Division Office have constructed concrete walls at different places along myagdi river from the budget allocated by the federal and provincial governments in the current fiscal year 2081/82 BS.

Dinesh KC, a resident of Tatopani, said that both the projects, which started in February last year, were completed before the onset of monsoon. Sahana-BRT JV Parbat, which had signed the contract for Rs 15.5 million, has constructed a composite technology wall under Saraswati Secondary School. The project was estimated to cost Rs 27 million.

Engineer of The Irrigation and Water Resources Management Project, Narjung Gurung, said that a 66-metre-long, four-metre-wide three-metre-high concrete and a gabin wall have been constructed on the banks of myagdi river to control erosion.

Shanti Nirman Sewa, a company awarded the contract with a budget of Rs 5 million allocated by the Water Resources, Irrigation and Drinking Water Division Office, has constructed a concrete wall behind the Upper Tatopani Market. Chief Divisional Engineer of the Office, Jhalak Mohan Ojha, said that a 40-meter long plum, share and gabion wall has been constructed through this contract.

In 2078 BS, the flood in myagdi river had eroded the Faparkhet and Masar in Tatopani. Two houses were destroyed in Masar. Saraswati Secondary School, Jwalamai Bhagawati Mother Group building and 17 houses in Masar are at risk of river erosion. The Upper Tatopani Market, home to around 100 households, is also at risk of erosion from the Myagdi river.

Ward chair Ana Bahadur Khadka said that the river was controlled by constructing gabion wall earlier. The contract is also in the process for the implementation of a multi-year budget plan that has ensured multi-year resources in the current fiscal year to control the erosion of myagdi river at Singa Tatopani and Beni Bazaar, known as natural treatment sites.

Engineer Gurung of the Irrigation and Water Resources Management Project said that a composite wall of 102 meters is to be constructed at Tatopani and 165 meters behind Darwang Bazaar of Beni.
