Kanchanpur. With the installation of deep tubewells, 240 bighas of land of farmers of Shuklaphanta Municipality-12 have been irrigated. The Underground Water Resources and Irrigation Development Division Office has installed deep tube wells at four places in the ward through a contract process. According to ward chair Nawal Singh Rana, deep tubewells have been installed at Gaundi, Khalla, Basantapur and Tilki toles.

“With the help of a deep tubewell, 60 bighas of land can be irrigated,” he said. With the availability of irrigation facilities through deep tubewells, it has become easier for the farmers of the region to cultivate fish, sugarcane, vegetable farming, basante maize and banana cultivation. Farmers have been able to cultivate paddy, mustard, lentils and wheat crops on time. Farmers say that the productivity of crops is increasing compared to the past.

Mohan Rana, who has been cultivating bananas, said, “In the past, the farmers here had to depend on sky water due to lack of reliable irrigation facilities. ’

Local teacher Genduram Rana said that the provision of irrigation has increased the income of the farmers of the area. According to him, more than 400 farmers have benefited from the installation of deep tubewells.
