Chitwan. When we say Chitwan, it comes to the mind of many that it is called a hot place, but many people will be surprised that there are tourist destinations in this district that are cool even in the summer season. The number of people reaching such places to escape the scorching heat of the Terai is increasing. Ichhakamana Rural Municipality here is promoting such cold tourism destinations.
The hilly areas of the district are also cool in the summer season. Most of the areas of Ichhakamana along with the hilly areas of Chowkidanda, Kalika and Rapti municipalities of Bharatpur are cold. Many of them are preferred by the tourist destinations of this municipality. The rural municipality estimates that around 300,000 tourists visit and stay here every year.
Rural municipality chair Dan Bahadur Gurung said that a large number of domestic tourists visit the long waterfall near narayangadh Muglin road during the summer season. Around 60,000 tourists visit this waterfall in ward no. 6 annually, he said. “According to statistics, domestic and foreign tourists come to bathe and swim in the cold water springs falling from above. This generates revenue of up to Rs 2.5 million annually,” gurung said.
Similarly, the old headquarters of the district, Upardanggadhi, falls in the same rural municipality-7. Chairman Gurung said that the reconstruction work is underway. “We are rebuilding the upardanggadhi to confirm who built it, why it was built and what is the need for it. Kotghar, which is in a dilapidated condition in the fort, is being reconstructed in the old style. The main objective is to keep various types of old weapons and costumes in that house,” he said.
Homestays around the fort are the preferred destinations for tourists during the summer season. During the holidays, it is difficult to find space in homestays in this area. More than 35,000 visitors visit the Upardanggadhi area annually and collect around Rs 1.5 million in revenue.
The highest peak in the district is Siraichuli Ward No. 1. The rural municipality is also working to construct and clean the road with stairs for its conservation and promotion. “Railings, iron benches and viewing spaces have been built here. Work has been done to preserve the nearby Kali and Siddha baba temples,” gurung said, adding, “We are working to install more flags, build pillars and other minor infrastructures.” We are working to build a structure that does not spoil the beauty of the place. ’
From here, most of the mountains, plains of chitwan and neighboring districts are visible and cold winds are also the choice of tourists. Around 10,000 tourists visit the temple annually, said Rural Municipality Chair Gurung. Another tourist destination in Ichhakamana-2 is Mayatar. Many tourists from Bharatpur come here to spend the night. This place is popular for local breeds of chickens, goats and local dishes. Since it is a cold place, tourists come here to spend one night. There are places of gods and goddesses near it. Tourists come there to visit.
It is believed that if worshiped in balgauri thana there, the childless will get children. Chairman Gurung said that people who like to walk in the forest of Chisapanigadhi of the rural municipality also come. A walkway from Chisapani to Siraichuli via Upardanggadhi has also been constructed.
Ichhakamana Temple is located at the confluence of ward no. 2, 3, 4 and 5 of the municipality. Most of the Indian tourists come here. Chairman Gurung said, “Many people come from Kathmandu, Bhaktapur and Lalitpu. More than 50,000 tourists visit the temple annually. ” The priest of the temple has been paid a salary. Arrangements have been made to deposit the gifts raised from there in the revenue of the rural municipality.
According to Maya Silwal, vice-chairperson of the rural municipality, although there are big hotels in the highway area of the rural municipality, tourists prefer to stay in small hotels and homestays in rural areas. “There are Gurung homestays in Chepang Homestay, Mayatar and Upardanggadhi of Hatiwang. There are homestays in Mayatar Jalbire. There are community homestays around tourist destinations. Tourists also come here to eat oranges from the plant at the time of orange growing,” he said. Silwal said there are around 100 homestays in the rural municipality area at present. The rural municipality has been providing support for the homestay. Chief Administrative Officer of the rural municipality, Chandra Bahadur Basnet, said that desire is important from the point of view of eco-tourism.
He said that the municipality is giving high priority to the promotion and publicity of such places as it is a cold destination near the summer zone. “Manakamana cable car station is located in this municipality. More than one million tourists visit manakamana temple annually from there. If proper publicity is done, domestic and foreign tourists can be increased to the tourist destinations of Ichhakamana,” Basnet said. The rural municipality is also preparing to encourage big investors to open hotels in tourist destinations by holding an investment conference.
