Kathmandu. Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Urban Development Prakash Man Singh has said that the contractor has taken lightly to complete the federal parliament building under construction in Singha Durbar on time.

He said this while speaking at a meeting of the Implementation, Monitoring and Evaluation Committee of the Directive Principles, Policies and Responsibilities of the State held at Singha Durbar on Thursday to discuss the progress of the under-construction Federal Parliament Building so far.

He said that the contractor has taken it lightly, saying that the deadline will be extended in time. Stating that 86 per cent physical progress has been made so far despite repeated extensions, he said they were serious about taking it to 100 per cent.

Minister Singh said that discussions were underway on whether to pay the fine or make the contractor feel responsible by expediting the work.

He said, “It started, went to the contract. The deadline has been extended several times. It has been said that 86 percent physical progress has been made. What are the provisions given by the law to increase 86 to 100? What tools can be used to speed up the work? If the penalty is to be paid, the contractor is taking it lightly, the deadline is extended, what they do and what they say. We take suggestions from the committee on what should be done to make the contractor more responsible. We have now agreed to go ahead with the deadline to complete it. ‘

He warned that if the contractor is not responsible, he will not hesitate to go ahead as per the legal provisions.
