Kathmandu. CPN (Maoist Centre) Deputy General Secretary and Member of The House of Representatives Janardan Sharma has stressed the need to bring the budget for the upcoming fiscal year only by restructuring the economic sector. Sharma said this while participating in a discussion on the principles and priorities of the Appropriation Bill in the Meeting of the House of Representatives on Wednesday.
He said the upcoming budget was expected to be presented as an objective document to uplift the people who could not get out of the gap of inequality in the country’s prosperity.
Stating that they would have full support if the current expenditure is reduced from 65 per cent to 35 per cent in the budget, he said the revenue was only around Rs 1 trillion. He also stressed the need for economic restructuring.
He said, “The minister will definitely have aspirations. But our bureaucracy has shut down everything. I would like to listen to the statements made by the honorable people today at this level even after the budget. I am confident that the budget will be presented as an objective document for the prosperity of a country and to uplift the people who have not been able to get out of the gap of inequality. We do not have the resources to meet the expectations of the people while making the budget. Where do you get that resource from? 65 percent of the budget goes to current expenditure. Only 17 per cent is capital expenditure. Therefore, we will support to bring down that 65 to 35. There is structural restructuring for that. Whether it is political and administrative sector, we have to reduce our today’s spending. You can make a budget only from that. Otherwise, the revenue is only around Rs 1 trillion. ’
He suggested to move ahead in such a way that the people’s frustration is due to the lack of improvement in education, health and employment on the issue of people’s livelihood.
