Kathmandu. The government, which is preparing the budget for the upcoming fiscal year 2082/83, has been requested by the private sector to make arrangements for selling Himalayan water in the Gulf. The Federation of Nepalese Chambers of Commerce and Industry, a leading private sector organization, has recommended the government to include the program in the budget and has demanded that the government make such arrangements by implementing the Farm to Gulf program.

According to the federation, the government should include the program in the upcoming budget and expand Nepali agricultural products and water to Gulf countries. There is a high demand for Himalayan water in Gulf countries. More than 12 flights from Nepal go to the Middle East daily.

To export agricultural products through these aircraft, cold storage, X-ray machines and warehouse facilities should be provided at the airport. In fact, water is still being exported from Nepal to various countries. Recently, domestic high-quality water has been regularly exported from various countries.

Three types of drinking water have been exported from Nepal. During that period, three types of water, namely mineral water, melted snow water and sugar-added water, have been exported abroad. Currently, the most exported water from Nepal is Rasuwa and Nepal Spring brand water.

Nepalese water has been exported to China and Japan. According to the latest data from the Department of Customs, various water products have been exported to major markets such as China, Japan and Hong Kong in the first nine months of the fiscal year 2081/82, which clearly indicates that the international demand for Nepali water products is increasing.

The Department of Customs has exported snow and ice water to Japan. During this period, 10,215 liters have been exported. The value of which is Rs. 115 million. According to customs data, during the nine months of the current fiscal year, Nepal has exported a total of 37,732 liters of water products, of which the majority of the data shows that it went to China.

The largest export category is sugar-sweetened water. Under this, 26,712 liters have been exported to China, the value of which is about Rs. 203.8 million. In addition, 740 liters of sugar-sweetened water have been exported to Hong Kong, worth Rs 64,000. This data shows that Nepal’s water is expanding in the Asian market.

Currently, Rasuwa brand water is being exported abroad by opening a factory in Dhunche, Rasuwa district. The Nepalese government has not made any laws related to water production, which is causing problems in exports. Producers say that it is difficult to show the quality certificates requested by foreign importers as the government has not set standards for water production.

Currently, Bottlers Nepal Company’s ‘Kinley’ produced from the Terai, Rasuwa brand’s ‘Himalayan Untop’, and Wave Nepal Pvt. Ltd.’s ‘Nepal Spring’ are being exported abroad.

Meanwhile, the necessary facilitation to export mineral water and purified water from the Himalayan region of Nepal by branding the Himalayan water was included in the last year’s budget, but it has not been implemented. Currently, as the private sector claims, Himalayan water is not being sold in the Gulf.

If the government can implement the program in the budget, there is a possibility of earning a large amount of foreign exchange by exporting Himalayan water in large quantities.
