Myagdi. The road track connecting Ward No. 10 Patlekhet from Beni Municipality-9 Neptechaur via Kaura-Githini-Akhet has been upgraded 15 years after it was opened.
This road, which was opened in 2067/68 BS, is an alternative short-distance section of the Neptechaur-Patlekhet section of the Beni-Pakhapani road. Traffic was operated after minor repairs.
Beni-Pakhapani is a priority and strategically important road project of Myagdi. Through the Beni-Arthunge-Toripani-Pakhapani road project implemented by Beni Municipality in the current fiscal year 2081/82, the difficult villages of Prabhesbindu, Ratopahiro, Neptechaur, Kaura, Arate, Githini and Akhet areas have been upgraded by widening the road, constructing gabion walls, drains and slopes.
Bind Chokhal of Beni Municipality-9 Kaura said that travel has become easier after the road upgrade. “After the main road connecting Jhin from Neptechaur via Toripani-Okhale-Patlekhet became winding, even though a short-distance alternative road was constructed 15 years ago, it was not given priority,” he said. “Before, there was a narrow road in the area where the upgrade was carried out. The grade and curvature were not consistent.” Chokhal said that after the slope was made, it was easier to travel on the road.
According to Milan KC, technician of the technical branch of Beni Municipality, 908 meters of the road have been cut, widened by removing landslides, retaining walls, drains and sloped at various places. Bikesh-Dupcheshwor-Shubham JV had signed a contract agreement for Rs. 20.9 million on 19 Poush 2081 to implement the plan with a budget of Rs. 30 million. The plan, which had a contract period until 25 Asad 2082, was completed three months early.
Subash Chandra Karki, the operator of the construction company, said that after the agreement, sufficient workers and equipment were mobilized and construction materials were managed, and the plan was completed ahead of schedule. Many projects are being delayed citing budget shortage, economic crisis, price increase in construction materials, social problems and other issues. Beni Municipality Deputy Mayor Jyoti Lamichhane said that work has been started by awarding another contract to carry out additional work worth Rs 2 million remaining from the first phase of the contract.
In the financial year 2081/82, Beni Municipality had allocated the largest budget for this project. About six kilometers of the Beni-Pakhapani road from Beni to Kirakhor via Arthunge has been sloped and blacktopped by the municipality.
The Infrastructure Development Office has been operating the project since last year under the provincial government’s budget for the upgrading of a four-kilometer road from Kirakhor to Galeshwor Secondary School in Toripani via Neptchaur. Mayor Surat KC said that the municipality has started the work of upgrading alternative roads as the provincial government has launched a project to upgrade the main road.
