Kavrepalanchok. Due to incessant rains, the highway has been blocked for eight hours since Monday night when the Roshi River at Mapti on the BP Highway washed away the diversion.

The District Police Office has stated that efforts are being made to open the blocked highway since last night. According to the office’s information officer, Deputy Superintendent of Police Min Bahadur Ghale, the highway could not be opened after the flood further damaged the road towards Mangalatar of the highway at Roshi Rural Municipality-12 at night.

He said that efforts are being made to open the highway, albeit one-way, since this morning with the initiative of the police team and locals. A temporary diversion was constructed at the location when the highway was washed away by the floods of Asoj last year.

The police have said that they have rescued 17 passengers stranded on the highway. Meanwhile, the police have said that the search for a woman who went missing in the floods following the incessant rains on Monday afternoon has also been launched today. Renuka Giri, 33, a resident of Subbagaun in Panauti Municipality-5, went missing at 6:00 pm when the Dhalam river swept away her.

She was swept away by the floodwaters that came down the river while she was returning from a fair. According to the office, the search was suspended after the police team and locals continued to search until late Monday night.

Pranau Ghale said that a team including Nepal Police, Nepal Army, and Armed Police Force has been mobilized since this morning and the search has been resumed. Some areas around Panauti Bus Park were flooded due to Monday’s rain. Similarly, the potato fields have been damaged due to the flood of the river.
