Kathmandu. Former Finance Minister Dr. Prakash Sharan Mahat has said that the problem of the country’s economy is budget allocation and implementation. He said this while talking to reporters at the parliament premises after the meeting of the House of Representatives on Sunday.
He said that the problem of the country is not proper budget allocation, and said that the budget allocation will be determined by the determination of the Finance Minister.
He argued that there was no spending where it should be spent, more spending where it should not be spent, and a small amount of money was scattered. He also said that the government has committed to allocating the budget by focusing only on the projects that have been studied.
He, who is also the spokesperson of the Nepali Congress, said that the Finance Minister should do his homework to ensure that limited resources and means are not misused and are implemented effectively.
He said, ‘The main problem of our economy is budget allocation and implementation. The budget determines how firmly the Finance Minister stands in allocating the budget based on priorities. Our problem is that the allocation has not been done properly. We have not been able to spend where it should be spent. Even if it is not spent, there is more spending.’
‘A little bit of money is scattered everywhere. There is also a matter of prioritizing it. You have also said that you will allocate the budget by focusing only on the projects that have been studied. It remains to be seen in the upcoming budget whether the allocation will be targeted as stated. They should also do serious homework to create a situation where limited resources and means are not misused and their effective implementation and return are ensured. They should also be able to withstand various kinds of pressures,’ he said.
He mentioned that the policies and programs presented by the government and passed by both houses are positive.
