Kathmandu. Shankaracharya Vidushekhar Bharati Mahaswamiji, the 37th Jagadguru of Dakshinamnaya Sringeri Sharada Peetham, is scheduled to visit Nepal from 8th to 10th Jestha. During his stay in Nepal, he is scheduled to visit major Hindu pilgrimage sites and perform religious rituals.

Mahaswamiji is scheduled to offer prayers at Pashupatinath Temple, travel to Muktinath Dham, and visit Siddha Baba and Kamakhya Devi Temples in Rupandehi and offer blessings. This visit of Shankaracharya has been considered of historical importance by the religious circles of Nepal.

It is believed that this will give the devotees a spiritual experience and further strengthen the religious relations between Nepal and India. Sringeri Sharada Matha, located in the Indian state of Karnataka, is an ancient and prestigious institution of Hinduism, founded in the 8th century by Adi Shankaracharya to propagate Advaita Vedanta.

The Shankaracharyas of Sringeri Matha are respected as the highest spiritual gurus in Sanatan Dharma. The Matha has been making special contributions to the development of Vedas, Upanishads, Yoga, Sanskrit studies and spiritual education. The temple of Goddess Sharada (Saraswati) established in this Matha, located on the banks of the Tunga River, is worshipped as the goddess of knowledge.

The Shankaracharyas of Sringeri have visited Nepal before. The 34th Jagadguru Bharati Krishna Tirtha Mahaswamiji visited pilgrimage sites including Pashupatinath, Muktinath, Lumbini in the 1950s-60s.

Similarly, the 35th Jagadguru Abhinav Vidya Tirtha Mahaswamiji worshipped at various temples in Kathmandu and Pokhara in the 1970s-80s, while the 36th Jagadguru Bharati Tirtha Mahaswamiji visited Nepal in 2012 and performed special pujas at the Pashupatinath Temple.

Thus, this visit of the 37th Jagadguru Vidushekhar Bharati Mahaswamiji is expected to further strengthen the long-term religious relations between Sringeri Math and Nepal.
