Kathmandu. Global pharmaceutical company Cipla has launched the ‘BreathFree 90’ program in collaboration with the Nepal Respiratory Society to regularize the treatment of respiratory patients in Nepal.
This AI-based program will run for 90 days and will regularly remind patients to use their inhalers on time through WhatsApp. This initiative is considered very relevant for Nepal at a time when air pollution has become a serious health challenge across the country.
There are statistics that about 50,000 people die every year due to pollution in Nepal. The number of patients with asthma and chronic respiratory diseases is increasing. Although inhalers are considered effective treatments for such diseases, the problem is compounded when most patients do not use the medication regularly.
The ‘BreathFree 90’ program is expected to solve such problems. The company said that patients participating in ‘BreathFree 90’ will receive messages prepared in easy language every day according to their treatment schedule.
The AI will also provide information on the correct way to use the inhaler and disease management, which will help improve the patient’s health. To participate in the program, one can scan the QR code available at clinics, hospitals or pharmacies.
Swappan Malpani, Head of Emerging Markets and Europe at Cipla, reiterated the company’s commitment to improving the quality of life of patients through technology. He said, “We are working towards making the lives of people living with chronic respiratory diseases easier, and BreatheFree 90 is an important step in this direction.”
The Nepal Respiratory Society will promote this program among healthcare professionals and help ensure its implementation in hospitals and clinics. The company is confident that this collaboration between Cipla and the society will positively contribute to improving the respiratory health of thousands of Nepalis.
