Parbat. The construction of the Lower Modi-New Modi transmission line has been started with the aim of connecting the hydroelectricity produced in the Modi River here, which has been developed as an energy river, to the national transmission line in an integrated manner.
The construction of a new transmission line has been started from Khareha, Kushma Municipality-7 to the New Modi transmission line station in Modi Rural Municipality-2, Deupur. Land is currently being acquired for the transmission line.
Project Chief Roshan Agrawal informed that land worth Rs. 10 million has been acquired in the first phase for the Kushma Lower Modi-New Modi transmission line project to be constructed by the Nepal Electricity Authority.
According to Project Chief Agrawal, this transmission line will be about eight and a half kilometers long. The transmission line from Lower Modi to New Modi substation should have been constructed about seven/eight months ago, he said, but the delay was due to land acquisition. Agrawal said that even though the contract date is still pending, it may take one and a half years to complete the work.
After the transmission line is connected from Kushma to New Modi, a ‘ring line’ will be constructed for electricity management. ‘Currently, it has come from Kushma via Butwal, Bharatpur, Damauli, Lekhnath, Lahachowk to New Modi. Now if this New Modi and Kushma are connected, the transmission line will form a circle,’ said Project Chief Agrawal. ‘After this circle is formed, even if the system fails at one place, the supply of electricity will remain intact.’
Agrawal informed that this transmission line is a 132 kV double circuit. Although a contract agreement has been signed for Rs 350 million to complete the project, it is estimated that about Rs 500 million will be spent on other works including land management.
Chief District Officer Hari Prasad Ghimire informed that 26 different plots of land are being acquired for the construction of the tower foundation of the 132 kV transmission line project and a compensation of Rs 10.5 million is being distributed. Since the compensation for the acquired land has been determined, the District Administration Office has issued a notice to the landowners to come and understand the amount.
In the first phase, compensation is being given for the land to be acquired in Modi Rural Municipality-5 Bajung and Kushma Municipality-3 Durlung, Kushma Municipality-7 Khareha and Ward No. 8 Chuwa for the construction of the transmission line tower. Pradya Ghimire said that those who received compensation as per Section 9 of the Land Acquisition Act 2034 have been called upon to accept the compensation.
About 74 megawatts of electricity is currently being generated through four power projects from the Modikhola in the mountains, and some projects are in the process of being constructed.
