Kathmandu. Nepali Congress President Sher Bahadur Deuba has said that the delay in the appointment of the governor is due to problems within the Nepal Rastra Bank.
Speaking at an interaction program on ‘Policies that the budget should cover in the current economic environment’ organized by the Economic Policy and Planning Department at the party’s central office on Tuesday, President Deuba said that the delay in the appointment of the governor is due to internal turmoil within the Rastra Bank. He referred to the issue of Acting Governor Dr. Neelam Dhungana not accepting the resignation of Executive Director Dr. Gunakar Bhatta as the internal turmoil within the Rastra Bank.
Acting Governor Dhungana has asked Executive Director Dr. The governor appointment process is being delayed, saying that the resignation of Bhatta has not been accepted and that there may be legal obstacles in appointing the governor without accepting the resignation.
Congress President Deuba and Prime Minister Oli are said to have reached an agreement to make Dr. Bhattarai the governor.
President Deuba also claimed that there is no problem in the ruling coalition. ‘There is no problem in the coalition. The delay in the appointment of the governor is due to problems within the National Bank,’ Deuba said.
Deuba also clarified that the delay in the appointment of the governor was not due to Prime Minister Oli.

Acting Governor Dr. Dhungana is in the race to become the governor herself. She has been refusing to accept the resignations of Dr. Prakash Kumar Shrestha and Dr. Bhatta. Dr. Stating that even Governor Mahaprasad Adhikari did not accept Shrestha’s resignation, the acting governor has been saying that the resignation of the executive directors should not be accepted. The post of Governor of the Nepal Rastra Bank has been vacant since Chaitra 24.
It seems that an atmosphere of distrust is developing between the Congress and the UML over the appointment of the governor.
