Kathmandu. National Assembly members have drawn the government’s attention to various issues including development and construction. In the National Assembly meeting held on Monday, members drew the government’s attention to current issues.
Nepalese Congress MP Krishna Bahadur Rokaya drew the government’s attention to the failure to construct a bridge over the Bheri River in Jajarkot under the Mid-Hill Highway, a national pride project. He demanded an answer from the concerned ministry about when the bridge construction on the river would be completed.
He said that it has been 6 months since the tender process was started and asked when the construction process would begin.
He said, ‘The Mid-Hill Highway is a national pride project of Nepal.’ This project aims to expand the transport network in 26 districts of the east and west. However, the project has not yet gained momentum as the road bridge connecting Mantabir in Jajarkot and Rukum, Chaurjar and Kudu over the Bheri River has not been built yet. It has been 6 months since the tender for the mid-hill bridge was announced to be held soon. Currently, the Ministry of Finance is saying that it has not been able to agree on resource assurance. What is the truth behind this? For what reason has the tender not been held and when will it be held? I strongly demand a response through the Ministry of Physical Infrastructure and Transport.’
NCP (Unified Socialist) MP Ghanshyam Rijal said that the government has been indifferent to the operation of the Lamabagar border crossing in Dolakha connecting Nepal and China. He drew the government’s attention to the need to operate the checkpoint and build infrastructure, which will generate significant revenue from imports and exports, including tourism.
He said, “The Lamabagar checkpoint in Dolakha district is one of the old trade checkpoints between Nepal and China. In the past, trade between Nepal and China used to take place through that checkpoint. Nepal also used to collect significant revenue. Customs offices and other offices were established in the 1990s with the aim of conducting trilateral trade through that checkpoint. The checkpoint has not been operational since 2052, citing security reasons. Even when Nepal can benefit significantly through import, export and tourism, the government’s indifference is condemnable.” Therefore, I draw the attention of the government to connect the 3-kilometer road connecting Nepal, China and India.’
Nepali Congress MP Bishnukumari Sapkota drew the government’s attention to the delay in the construction of the Kathmandu-Narayanghat-Butwal road. She said that the road was demolished at all places at once for construction, causing inconvenience to passengers. She demanded from the government the reason why the road construction could not be completed despite repeated extensions.
She said, ‘Many citizens have been inconvenienced due to the long-standing obstruction of the Kathmandu-Narayanghat-Butwal road. The distance from Narayanghat to Butwal is only two to three hours. But now it takes 15 to 20 hours. What is the reason why the construction of this road, which was taken over by a Chinese company, could not be completed even after the deadline was extended twice?’
CPN (Maoist Center) MP Bishnu Bahadur Bishwakarma drew the government’s attention to the immediate arrest and investigation of former King Gyanendra Shah in the Chaitra 15 incident.
He said that although the assistant commanders of the said incident are in jail, the government has not been able to arrest the main commander Shah. He said that the government should arrest Shah and investigate his assets, saying that he was also the mastermind of the palace massacre.
He said, ‘The country is shocked by the chaos that occurred on Chaitra 15. Its assistant commander has been arrested, the assistant commander is in jail, but the main commander has not been caught. The main commander is Gyanendra Shah, the main hero of the retreat. The government has not been able to arrest Gyanendra Shah yet. There is widespread talk that he is also the main planner of the palace massacre. Gyanendra Shah should be arrested and his assets should also be investigated.’
The National Assembly members had drawn the government’s attention to complaints of financial irregularities and corruption and the functioning of projects of national pride.
