Kathmandu. Rastriya Prajatantra Party Chief Whip Gyan Bahadur Shahi has demanded the formation of a judicial inquiry committee, saying that the government has violated human rights in the Tinkune incident.
Speaking in the House of Representatives meeting on Monday, MP Shahi accused the state of excessive repression, stating that people including Rabindra Mishra have been in detention for 40 days. He objected to the government forming a judicial inquiry committee after the balloon burst in Pokhara, saying that it remained silent even when Sabin Maharjan was shot dead.
He said, “The government has increased state terror to the extreme. Rabindra Mishra and his friends have been in detention for 40 days. In the incident in Tinkune, various human rights organizations have confirmed that the state has committed serious and direct violations of human rights. But the state is holding back. I want to ask the state, why don’t you form a judicial inquiry committee for the one who shot Sabin Maharjan in the head in broad daylight? A judicial inquiry committee is necessary.’
He also drew the government’s attention to the immediate release of the imprisoned RPP leaders.
