Kathmandu. The unity general convention organized by the Non-Resident Nepali Association (NRNA) High Level Committee has concluded with the issuance of the Kathmandu Declaration. The general convention has also elected a new working committee under the chairmanship of Mahesh Shrestha. Shrestha was made the NRNA chairman by the Congress-Maoist alliance.
Another working committee led by Badri KC is also active in the NRNA. KC is close to the UML, while Shrestha is a Congress cadre. The working committee led by KC is using the NRNA office and other structures. The Congress-UML, which are in the ruling coalition, have been showing a different attitude towards the NRNA. UML is alone in the NRNA and there is a working committee under its leadership that is running the central office. The Congress and Maoist alliance, on the other hand, have formed a new committee under the leadership of a high-level committee formed as per the order of the Supreme Court.
The NRN general convention was boycotted by UML Chairman and Prime Minister KP Oli. The convention, called the Unity Convention, was inaugurated by Foreign Minister Dr. Arju Rana Deuba, while Maoist Center Chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal was invited as the chief guest of the closing ceremony.
That is, the Unity Convention has formally divided the NRN. And it seems that this will create a cold atmosphere in the ruling coalition as well.
