Compensation distributed to 94 percent of families affected by Tanahun Hydropower Project

Damauli. Compensation has been distributed to 94 percent of the families affected by the explosion during the construction of the 140 MW capacity Tanahu Hydropower Project under construction in Rishing Rural Municipality-1 of Tanahu.

The project has distributed compensation to the families affected by the explosion during the construction of the structures under Phase-1, which affected the surrounding areas of the project. Project Chief Shyamji Bhandari informed that after assessing the damage to the houses and structures of 147 families in Rishing-1 and Byas Municipality-5, the amount was distributed to 139 families.

According to him, the amount for the remaining families is in the process of being distributed. Bhandari informed that after monitoring the damaged houses, a maximum amount of Rs. 300,000 and a minimum amount of Rs. 10,000 has been fixed for compensation. He said, ‘The amount has been distributed as determined by the committee formed by the District Administration Office. Only six percent of families are yet to receive the amount.’

A committee was formed under the coordination of the Assistant Chief District Officer after a complaint was received from locals alleging that their houses were damaged during the construction of the structure. The committee includes engineers from the Infrastructure Development Office, project engineers and others.

Under phase-1 of the project, dams and other structures are being constructed. The construction of the structures under this phase is being carried out by Songda Kalika JV. Chief Bhandari mentioned that 42.5 percent progress has been made so far. Under this, preparatory work is being done to construct a 140-meter-high dam.

According to Bhandari, the work of draining the water accumulated at the dam foundation construction site and installing a tower crane has been completed. He said, ‘Work is ongoing to clean the lower bank area of the dam construction site, drilling, concreting, and drilling, grouting, etc. in the upper bank area.’
