Nawalparasi. The suspension bridge in Susta Rural Municipality-5 of West Nawalparasi is at risk. Adam Khan, vice-chairman of the Susta Bachau Abhiyan, said that the bridge is at risk after more people started crossing the suspension bridge than its daily capacity.
He said, “The bridge has become dilapidated due to the number of people and motorcycles crossing it more than its capacity.” He said that the problem is due to the lack of monitoring by the concerned bodies. A significant number of domestic tourists come to see the panoramic view of the river and its surroundings from the suspension bridge built on the Narayani River. Recently, the Susta suspension bridge has also become a favorite among Indian tourists.
Susta Rural Municipality Chairman Tek Narayan Upadhyay said that the bridge was built to provide convenience to the residents of Susta rather than for tourists. He said that the rural municipality has mobilized the city police to take care of the bridge.
According to Humlal Bhusal, the rural municipality’s chief administrative officer, the rural municipality could not move forward even though it called for a contract last year to operate and maintain the bridge.
Fifteen “We had invited bids for the month at Rs 900,000. Since no one applied, we are preparing to invite bids again,” he said. The bridge has been constructed over the Narayani River at a cost of Rs 230 million. The length of the bridge is 1,571 meters and the width is 1 meter 60 centimeters.
