Mustang. Locals have demanded the upgrading of the collapsed road at Ghar Pajhong-4 Jomsom, located on the Kobang-Jomsom road section of Mustang under the national pride Beni-Jomsom-Korla road. They have also blocked the road for two hours today.
The road was opened after Chief District Officer Bishnu Prasad Bhusal assured that the construction company would immediately start the work on the collapsed road structure. Along with this, the Muktinath-Korla road has departed for its destination.
Earlier, locals had blocked the road near the Ganesh Temple in Ghar Pajhong-4 Jomsom, Mustang, demanding that the road work should immediately start at the collapsed part of the main road under construction in Jomsom. They had blocked traffic on the Muktinath-Korla road for some time, stating that the coastal settlement of the Kaligandaki River was at risk due to the lack of upgrading of the approximately 100 meters of road that collapsed last year.
Jomsom local Pramila Gurung Thakali said that despite repeatedly drawing the local administration and the rural municipality office’s attention in writing to take necessary steps to repair and upgrade the collapsed road, no initiative has been taken to upgrade the collapsed road.
Yam Prasad Thakali, Ward Chairman of Gharpajhong-4, Jomsom, Mustang, said that although the ultimatum given by the construction company, project and local administration to upgrade the Jomsom road was set until Chaitra 20, the construction company has not upgraded the collapsed road at that location. .
The locals said that the construction company had repeatedly cheated and the local administration had not taken the road maintenance and upgrading work seriously, which led to the road being blocked.
The construction company has not been able to complete the 17-km Kobang-Jomsom road, which was contracted in 2073/074 BS, due to delays. The locals have demanded that the Marfa-Jomsom road be blacktopped and the flooded road in Jomsom be constructed immediately so that the river level does not rise during the rainy season.
