Myagdi. The six-megawatt Relekhola Hydropower Project has been constructed in Narchyang, Annapurna Rural Municipality-4, Myagdi. The testing has begun after the construction of the physical structure of the project has been completed.

Homnath Pandey, Public Relations Officer of the project, informed that the testing of the constructed physical structure has begun and preparations are being made to start electricity generation within this month.

‘The technical team has started testing by filling the pipeline connected to bring water from the dam to the power house with water,’ he said. ‘The testing work has reached the final stage after the construction of the physical structure and installation of equipment.’

The construction company will construct a dam in the Kalokhola at the foot of Khopara Lake, two 50-meter-long water retention ponds (desanders), a power house in Relekhark, and a 3,600-meter-long road from the dam to the power house. A long pipeline has been installed.

A five-kilometer transmission line of 33 kV capacity has been constructed to connect the power house, switchyard and Dana substation of Relekhorka. The pipeline has been installed as an alternative to tunnels and canals. A structure to generate electricity by dropping water from a height of 505 meters to the power house has been constructed and equipment has been installed.

The project, which began construction in 2079 BS with a target of completion in two years, was affected by the flood on 15 Jestha 2081 BS that damaged the dam and intake built in Kalokhola. Public Relations Officer Pandey said that the project is being operated by building a temporary dam and pouring water into the descender.

Himalayan and Rastriya Banijya Bank have invested in the project, which is estimated to cost Rs. 1.2 billion. This project has built a 17-kilometer access road from Beshigaun in Narchyang to Lekgaun to the dam and power house construction site. Ward member Shyam Purja said that the residents of Lekgaun have also been provided with facilities through the project’s access road.
