‘We will move forward by completing the search committee formed to recommend the governor, there is no problem’ Home Minister Lekhak

Kathmandu. Home Minister Ramesh Lekhak has clarified that there is no problem in the operation of the current government. In a meeting with journalists working in Suraksha Bit today, referring to the New Year 2082, he urged not to have any doubts about the power-sharing issue regarding the resignation of the Education Minister and the appointment of the governor.

‘There is no such problem in the government, a member of the search committee formed to recommend the governor has resigned. Then we have to complete it and move forward. “We will discuss it in the upcoming cabinet meeting and complete it,” he said in response to a mediaperson’s query.

The Home Minister clarified that strong peace and security, competent home administration, and a well-resourced security agency are always his priorities, and said that he is also moving forward with legal and policy reforms.

Clarifying that policy and legal reforms are his priorities, Minister Lekhak said that good governance cannot be imagined without policy reforms. Informing that the Nepal Police and Armed Police Force Nepal Act have reached the parliamentary committee for discussion, he said that the ministry is busy preparing to amend the Act on Land Acquisition, Organization Registration and Social Welfare.

‘The regulations related to Hajj and citizenship have reached the Council of Ministers, and it has been decided to take the regulations related to prisons to the Council of Ministers today,’ he said, ‘Other important laws will be taken to Parliament soon.’ Stating that he has instructed to formulate separate standards to improve the immigration administration, he clarified that there has been improvement in the service delivery provided by the Immigration Office at Tribhuvan International Airport in recent times.

Acknowledging that there may be weaknesses in the performance of work by subordinate bodies, he clarified that he will learn from them and move forward. Stating that criticism is acceptable in a democracy, Nepali Congress leader Lekhak urged the media to cooperate by pointing out shortcomings.

Home Minister Lekhak informed that an investigation is underway into the violent protest by a royalist group in Tinkune, the capital, on Chaitra 15. He clarified that the police are also conducting an internal investigation into the methods adopted to maintain security.

‘A comprehensive investigation is being conducted regarding the incident, the police will get to the bottom of the reality of the incident, and the investigation will be impartial, independent, professional and in-depth,’ said Minister Lekhak. He said that preparations are being made to provide relief to the families of those who lost their lives in the protest.
