Ncell becomes the first company to be listed as a data center and cloud service provider

Kathmandu. Ncell has become the first and only Nepali company to be listed as a data center and cloud service provider. The Department of Information Technology listed Ncell as a data center service provider and cloud service provider on Sunday.

The Ministry of Communications and Information Technology, Department of Information Technology has listed Ncell as per the legal provisions in the Data Center and Cloud Services (Operation and Management) Directive 2081. The company has been listed after the department, after a direct inspection of the company and a thorough study of the application and documents submitted by the company, found that the company followed the operating standards and security prescribed by the company.

According to the directive, there was a provision that data center and cloud service providers in operation should be listed with the department within 6 months. Ncell has already registered itself before that period.

This directive came into effect after it was approved by the Minister of Communications and Information, Prithvi Subba Gurung, on 15 Magh 2081. The directive sets out rules for service providers in important areas including security, privacy and infrastructure.

In accordance with the directive’s provision that data center and cloud service operations should be registered separately, Ncell has registered itself separately for both these services. With this listing, Ncell has now become the first and only company that can easily provide data center and cloud services in accordance with the new legal provisions.

Currently, Ncell has a state-of-the-art Tier 3 data center in Lalitpur, Nakkhu that can be used by banks, government agencies, and large commercial organizations. Similarly, Ncell has been operating two disaster recovery data centers in Pokhara and Hetauda.

During the listing process, the department reviewed fire safety assurance, the organization’s security and privacy policy, business continuity A thorough study of documents and details including plans, data center tiers, IP pools, etc. was conducted.

The government had issued a directive to operate information technology systems reliably, securely and effectively. The listing of data centers and cloud service providers is expected to make the regulation, transparency and cybersecurity of this sector more effective. The directive aims to ensure the reliable, secure and efficient operation of information technology systems in the country. The formal listing of data centers and cloud service providers is expected to strengthen regulation, transparency and cybersecurity in the entire sector.
