Chitwan. Among the taxpayers of the Internal Revenue Office Bharatpur, 3,100 taxpayers have not submitted their income statements. Although the income statements should be submitted by mid-December, those taxpayers have not submitted their statements yet.
According to the office’s information officer, Bimal Poudel, there is a provision to submit income statements within three months of the fiscal year. Although there is no penalty for submitting the statements by mid-December, they have not submitted them yet. Poudel said that the taxpayers were asked to submit their details by deputing employees.
He said, “Although 4,000 taxpayers had not filed their income tax returns by the end of the year, 900 taxpayers have filed their details in the last three months.” For this, the office has been deputing employees to meet taxpayers who have not filed their income tax returns and request them to submit their income tax returns.
He urged taxpayers to avoid interest as taxpayers have to pay fees and interest for not filing their details. According to the office, there are 72,562 taxpayers here. Taxpayer education, publicity, pamphlet distribution, miking, collection visits and coordination with local levels are being carried out to ensure that income statements are submitted and taxes are paid.
The office has collected 90.38 percent of the target tax in the current fiscal year so far. By mid-March, it has collected Rs 16.58 billion 32.96 million in revenue. During that period, the Revenue Department had set a target of collecting Rs 18.34 billion 69.10 million in revenue.
During the same period of the last fiscal year, the office had collected Rs 13.93 billion 83.10 million in revenue. At that time, the department had set a target of Rs 19.89 billion 64.19 million. The department had collected only 70.05 percent of the target.
