Tanahun. The Madi River Lift Drinking Water Scheme to be constructed in Byas Municipality-1 is incomplete. The scheme could not be constructed on time due to the negligence of the businessmen involved in the construction.

The Madi River Lift Drinking Water Scheme is being constructed with the investment of the Bhadgaon Drinking Water and Consumers Organization and the Government of Nepal. The scheme could not be completed after Satish Parajuli, the operator of ‘Parajuli Construction’, who was awarded the construction contract, left the construction work unfinished and lost contact, informed Ishwar Shrestha, the manager of the Bhadgaon Drinking Water and Consumers Organization.

The Madi River Lift Drinking Water Scheme was taken forward with 70 percent investment from the government and 30 percent from the Bhadgaon Drinking Water Organization. Manager Shrestha said that an agreement was reached regarding the scheme in Bhada 2079 BS to be completed by Bhada 2080 BS. The project has made about 80 percent physical progress so far.

‘We have extended the project construction deadline three times,’ he said. According to Manager Shrestha, a reserve tank with a capacity of four hundred thousand liters has been constructed in Amilibhanjyang. However, the construction work of a tank with a capacity of 50 thousand liters in Bhadru is incomplete.

The construction work of the project has been taken forward at a cost of Rs 190 million. ‘Due to the delay in construction, there has been difficulty in water supply,’ he said. Water is being brought from the Madi River in Churekholsi, Byas-4 and distributed to the residents of the ward.

The drinking water institution was established in 2056 BS. The organization has so far installed 2,680 private taps and distributed water. Water is being distributed from the Khirkhadi spring in Byas-13 Karadi.

The water shortage has occurred due to the expansion of settlements in that area. Manager Shrestha said that the construction of the Madi River Lifting Drinking Water Project has been taken forward as an alternative drinking water source to meet the shortage.
