Kathmandu. Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli has called on the agitating teachers to return to school immediately by holding talks as the state will address the demands that the country’s treasury can afford and are feasible.

Inaugurating the 11th National Conference of the Nepal Progressive Teachers’ Organization in Kirtipur today, Prime Minister Oli said that the current government is not oppressive but democratic and will address the legitimate demands of the professional sector, including protecting the rights of trade unions.

‘The School Education Bill is under consideration in the parliamentary committee. There is no need for so many teachers to protest on the streets to bring the act. The admission campaign has already started. Please know, go to the school and get admitted. Check the SEE answer sheet. Don’t be offended by my statement that 52 percent of students failed in SEE. “Let’s work for quality education,” Prime Minister Oli said, “The teachers’ agitation is causing losses to students and parents, but not to teachers. Therefore, let’s immediately sit for talks and end the agitation.” This is not the right time for you to protest when regressive elements are in power.’

Urgently urge professors to show intellectual activism for prosperity and progress Prime Minister Oli, who is also the Chairman of the Communist Party of Nepal (UML), said that professors should show intellectual activism against regressive, extreme leftist, distorted and anomalous tendencies.

He called on them to be aware of the regressive, extreme leftist, distorted and anomalous tendencies manifesting in the country and to engage in the formation of ideas from their intellectual fields to protect the existing federal democratic republic.

‘A conscious class like professors should be able to distinguish between democracy and dictatorship. There is no such thing as being unable. No conscious citizen can remain neutral in terms of how to build their society. We need to build skilled human resources for the prosperity of the country through the use of democracy,’ said Prime Minister Oli. ‘We have called it Mission 2084. That mission is a mission against anarchism, reactionary, incivility and attempts to turn the country towards a dark journey. You should support this by writing and speaking and demonstrating your intelligence. We should give our identity to the society as a learned community. The development of the country happens when the citizens are healthy, educated and skilled. Making citizens healthy, educated and skilled should be our priority.’

Prime Minister Oli urged us to think about how to make education accessible to everyone and how to provide quality education, reminding us to reflect on the very important issue of how we acquire, collect and communicate knowledge.

He urged us to play an effective role in the reforms that need to be made in the higher education sector in the coming days, as the birth of this organization was in the course of the movement for rights.
