Myagdi. The number of home deliveries in Malika Rural Municipality of Myagdi has dropped to zero. The number of home deliveries has been reduced to zero as the lives of the mother and child are at risk while giving birth at home and women continue to suffer from various problems after delivery.
Health Branch Chief Santu Karki said that ‘home delivery’ has been made zero to reduce the risks caused by risky childbirth and improve the health of the child and mother.
‘Since the start of the current fiscal year 2081/82, all 80 people who have given birth in Malika Rural Municipality have given birth at a health institution,’ he said. ‘We have emphasized on awareness-raising programs to make home delivery zero in the remaining three months of the current fiscal year and the next fiscal year as well. .’
In the fiscal year 2079/80, out of 195 deliveries in Malika Rural Municipality, 18 women delivered at home. Similarly, in the fiscal year 2080/81, out of 133 deliveries, nine women delivered at home.
Safe maternity services are available at Malika’s Niskot, Room, Devisthan, BIM Health Post and Darwang Basic Hospital. One in Niskot, 22 in Room, 16 in Devisthan and 38 people received maternity services from Darwang Basic Hospital, said Health Branch Chief Karki.
Laxmi Devi Gharti Pun, Vice-Chairperson of Malika Rural Municipality, informed that home deliveries have been zero due to the state’s policy and awareness campaign to conduct eight pregnancy tests and encourage those to give birth at health posts.
‘Many awareness programs have been conducted on the potential risks of pregnancy and childbirth,’ he said, adding that the efforts made by government and non-government organizations have been effective.’
