Baglung. The old age home built in Nearghat, Baglung Municipality-4 has not been operational. The old age home built two years ago to house the elderly who were neglected by their families has not been operational.
Since the building has not been operated for a long time after its completion, the surrounding area has become covered with bushes and has become abandoned. The construction company had signed an agreement for the construction of the ashram on 2079 BS Poush 8 and started work. The construction company completed the work on 25 Asad 2080 BS. The ashram was built at a cost of Rs. 22.6549 crore of the municipality. Although the building is one-story, it is well-equipped.
Bagalung Municipality Mayor Basanta Kumar Shrestha said that the old age home was built to protect the elderly who have been neglected by their families, but it is not operational yet because no elderly people have come to seek shelter. He said that the executive has decided to allow the Manav Seva Ashram to operate for some time rather than leaving the structure built at a cost of crores unused.
Mayor Shrestha said, “No one should have to live in the Baba Aama Ashram. Fortunately, no one has come to our contact so far saying that they have been neglected by their families. The municipality built this ashram with the aim of protecting the neglected elderly. It has been decided to give it to the Manav Seva Ashram in the sense that it should be used now.”
The Manav Seva Ashram building is under construction near the old age home. He said that the old age home will be used until the building is completed. Mayor Shrestha said that the municipality will make the building covered in bushes tidy in some time. He informed that work such as fencing and garbage management will be done to protect the building. Shrestha said that if any elderly people come to take shelter, they will be provided with good facilities.
The ashram has been built on five ropanis of land of Jangeshwor Mahadev Laxminarayan Guthi in Nirayaghat. The building has 20 rooms including a meditation center, nursing center, and kitchen, informed Baglung Municipality Engineer Sobin Gharti. He said that the building has toilets and bathrooms for the elderly.
Balkrishna Acharya, a local of Baglung Municipality-1, said that a large amount of money is being lost due to the non-operation of the old age home. He said that it is a sad matter that the old age home has not been operated for two years after the construction was completed, and said that the municipality should use it for any purpose. He says that the new building is starting to break down before it is used.
