Kanchanpur. The bridge over the Doda River connecting Krishnapur Municipality and Laljhadi Rural Municipality of Kanchanpur is being constructed nine years after the agreement was signed. A contract was signed with Lumbini Rajendra Kumar Shrestha JV Kailali in 2072 Paush for the construction of the bridge for Rs 242.257 crore. Although the bridge construction work was to be completed by 2075 Paush as per the agreement, the bridge is being constructed nine years after the agreement was signed.
According to Bhojraj Rana, Sub-Engineer of the Division Road Office, the bridge construction work had started at that time as per the agreement and up to three pillars had been constructed. However, it took nine years to complete the bridge construction after problems were found in the foundation of the bridge. He said that the bridge had to be built at another location after the problem was found in the foundation of the pillar.
Although an agreement was made in 2072 BS for the construction of the bridge, the bridge had to be rebuilt at another location due to problems in the foundation of the bridge, Sub-Engineer Rana said that the construction was delayed because the design had to be changed again. He said, “The bridge construction work is currently underway and preparations are underway to complete it by Asad.” As per the agreement, the bridge construction work should be completed by the coming Magh. Engineer Kishorraj Pandey of the bridge construction company Lumbini Rajendra Kumar Shrestha JV informed that 60 percent of the bridge work has been completed.
The locals here have been facing problems in commuting for years due to the lack of a bridge on the Doda River. Locals say that they are forced to cross the river at risk of their lives during the rainy season. Local Raghubir Rana says that two people from Laljhandi lost their lives a few years ago while crossing the river due to the lack of a bridge.
‘We had to cross the river at risk of our lives during the rainy season because we had to live on the riverbank and work in the fields,’ he said. ‘Now the bridge is half built, we are happy.’
