The White House released a fact sheet on its website on April 15 about the Section 232 investigation, saying that “China is facing tariffs of up to 245 percent on imports to the United States as a result of its retaliatory actions.”
In response to a relevant question, a Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman said, “The United States’ increase in tariffs on China has become a numbers game, which no longer makes much real difference economically, but shows how the United States uses tariffs as a weapon to coerce and intimidate others.”

“If the US continues to play this numbers game with tariff increases, it will be ignored. But if the US continues to cause real damage to China’s rights and interests, China will retaliate strongly and will stick to its position to the end,” he said.
