2.2 million children being given Vitamin A

Kathmandu. Vitamin ‘A’ is being administered to 2.2 million children across the country on Saturday and Sunday. The Ministry of Health and Population is administering vitamin ‘A’ under the ‘National Vitamin ‘A’ Program’ on Saturday and Sunday.

According to the Department of Health Services, under the ‘National Vitamin ‘A’ Program’, vitamin ‘A’ capsules will be administered to about 2.2 million children aged six months to 59 months. On the same day, about 1.9 million children aged one to five years will be administered deworming medicine. Children will be administered Balvita. Malnutrition tests will also be conducted on the same day.

About 52,000 female health volunteers and 15,000 health workers will be mobilized for the ‘National Vitamin ‘A’ Program. The government has been implementing the National Vitamin A Program, which was launched in eight districts in 2050 BS for the prevention and treatment of vitamin A deficiency, throughout the country since 2059 BS.

The deworming program, which was launched in 13 districts in 2056 BS for the control and prevention of worms, has been implemented in all districts since 2067 BS. Similarly, Balvita has been administered since 2064 BS. The government has been making arrangements to provide free vitamin A and deworming medicine to children in Kartik and Baisakh every year.
