Kathmandu. Nepal Samajwadi Party (New Power) Chairman and former Prime Minister Dr. Baburam Bhattarai has said that liberal democracy and socialist democracy are two branches of the same tree. He said this while speaking at the first memorial and book launch program of Nepali Congress leader and former Chairman of District Development Committee Gorkha, Late Chandra Prasad Neupane in Kathmandu on Wednesday.
He said that democracy is the main thing. He believed that the federal democratic republic can be protected by learning from each other’s good qualities and abandoning bad qualities rather than prohibiting each other. Stating that regressive elements have been trying to strengthen the country in recent times, Chairman Dr. Bhattarai stressed the need to move forward by keeping the national interest at the center and remaining firm in democratic values.
Chairman Dr. Bhattarai claimed that he was a person who had both the qualities of the Congress and the Communists and had progressed a little. He said that he was a person who carried the consciousness of feudalism, autocracy and anti-monarchy, and that he was close to the Congress until 2033 BS and then in the Communist Party until 2073 BS, and was a true opponent of the monarchy.
He also expressed concern that personal ambition and the fascination with wealth were dominating values and integrity in politics.
