Kathmandu. Minister for Energy, Water Resources and Irrigation Deepak Khadka has said that the government is serious about the demands of teachers. In a meeting with a team from the Nepal Teachers’ Federation, Sankhuwasabha, at the ministry today, he said that the government will discuss with stakeholders and address the demands of teachers.
‘Suggestions and advice from teachers are also necessary for the reform of the education sector, I will discuss this issue with the Education Minister and the Council of Ministers,’ he said. He said that the government is currently in the process of discussing the formulation of various acts and is working on the formulation of timely acts.
Sher Bahadur Puri, President of the Nepal Teachers’ Federation, Sankhuwasabha, urged for initiatives regarding the 24-point demands of teachers. Divyaraj Adhikari, federal representative of the Nepal Teachers Association, Sankhuwasabha, informed that this is not just a teachers’ movement but an educational movement.
The teachers have made demands such as maintaining staff positions in schools, bringing child development classes under school education, regularizing teacher promotions, allowing internal competition, increasing teacher grades, and maintaining the service entry age at 40 years.
