Kathmandu. In the past year, 745 people have died in disasters. According to the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Authority, 8,861 disasters occurred in the past year, and 745 people died in those incidents.
69 people went missing and 1,702 were injured in those incidents, informed Ram Bahadur KC, spokesperson of the Authority. According to him, 18,991 households have been affected by disasters in the past year. The Authority has stated that there has been a total economic loss of Rs 3.13 billion.
How many human casualties were there in which incident?
The highest number of deaths was due to landslides, with 351 people. This was followed by 97 deaths from floods, 78 from lightning strikes and 77 from fires, according to the Authority. Eight people have died due to heavy rain, 43 due to animal attacks, 24 due to drowning, 23 due to air crashes, and 19 due to snake bites.
Similarly, 10 people have died due to fires, seven due to storms, one due to boat capsizing, and seven due to various other causes. 48 people have gone missing due to landslides, 18 due to floods, and three people have gone missing due to avalanches.
Most fire incidents
When studying the number of disaster-related incidents, the most fire incidents occurred this year. According to the statistics from 1st April 2081 BS to 29th April 2081 BS, there have been only 4,145 incidents of fire. After that, there have been 1,195 incidents of wildfire and 1,05 incidents of landslide.
Similarly, there have been 418 incidents of floods, 568 incidents of heavy rain, 418 incidents of lightning, 477 incidents of animal attacks, and 111 incidents of drowning. There have been two incidents of air crashes, 84 incidents of snake bites, 349 incidents of windstorms, one incident of boat capsizing, six incidents of avalanches, 74 incidents of earthquakes, one incident of hailstorm and seven other disasters, according to the details made public by the NEA.
