UK. Nepali Ambassador to the UK Chandra Kumar Ghimire has paid a courtesy call on Sir Lindsay Hoyle, Speaker of the House of Commons, the lower house of the British Parliament.

In a recent meeting at Westminster, Ambassador Ghimire had conveyed a message from Nepal’s Speaker of the House of Lords Devraj Ghimire, praising the historic role of the British Parliament.

He expressed gratitude for the support of the UK’s All-Party Parliamentary Committee on Nepal, noting that Nepal’s Parliament is inclusive. Ambassador Ghimire stressed the importance of high-level visit exchanges, saying that the UK and Nepal have had close and cordial relations for more than two centuries. The Nepali Embassy in London stated that he expressed his view on the need for continued and additional support from the UK to Nepal.

Ambassador Ghimire said that he expects continued support from the UK government, especially in mitigating the impact of climate change, fulfilling Nepal’s aspirations for prosperity and sustaining progress after Nepal’s graduation from a Least Developed Country (LDC) by 2026, and addressing the grievances of former British Gurkha soldiers as soon as possible.

In the said meeting, Speaker Hoyle discussed the historic and unique relationship between Nepal and the United Kingdom and the possibilities of cooperation between the parliamentary groups of the two countries in the future, according to a statement issued by the embassy. He expressed confidence that the UK government would continue to support and collaborate in areas that align with Nepal’s needs and priorities.
