Kathmandu. Minister for Labor, Employment and Social Security Sharat Singh Bhandari has said that preparations are underway to amend the Foreign Employment Act and the Labor Act. Minister Bhandari said this while addressing the 30th and 31st annual general meetings of the Nepal Foreign Employment Entrepreneurs Association on Friday.
He also informed that the government has sought advice and suggestions from stakeholders to make the Foreign Employment Act and the Labor Act relevant to the times.
He said that coordination between the government and the private sector is necessary to make the laws contemporary and guarantee the rights of workers. He said that the decision to ban domestic workers from going abroad for employment has also been revoked.
He said, “Based on the experience so far, the government is currently in the process of amending the Foreign Employment Act and the Labor Act based on the legal obstacles to advancing the foreign employment business and the things that need to be improved. We are making necessary consultations for that. Even before, when I was a minister, I myself resolved the situation of companies closing down due to legal problems through law amendments.”
He claims that the government is committed to making foreign employment dignified and systematic.
