Tanahun. The rotor (electric motor) has been installed inside the underground power house of the 140 MW capacity Tanahun Hydropower Project under construction. The installation of the rotor inside the underground power house has been successful under Phase-2 of the project.
Sino Hydro Limited has installed two rotors with a capacity of 190 tons, informed the project head Shyamji Bhandari. He said, “The water coming through the tunnel hits the rotor and the rotor rotates to generate electricity. The work inside the power house has reached the final stage. Now the power house is ready for operation.”
Work is being done in three phases of the hydropower project. According to Bhandari, 36.15 percent progress has been made in dam construction under Phase-1 and 75 percent progress has been made in transmission line construction under Phase-3. Project Chief Bhandari said that the work has been affected due to delays in the use of forest land and removal of trees and plants for the construction of the transmission line under Phase-3.
He informed that the project is conducting necessary consultation, coordination and facilitation with the concerned bodies for that. The overall construction of the project is targeted to be completed by Asar 2083 BS. The project office has stated that the total cost of the company, including the capital structure and financial management (transmission lines, rural electrification, and interest during the construction period), will be US$550 million.
The said amount has been financially managed with ADB contributing US$150 million, Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) contributing US$184 million, European Investment Bank contributing US$85 million, and the Government of Nepal and Nepal Electricity Authority contributing US$86 million.
