48 percent of Gulmi residents have access to health insurance

Gulmi. The attraction of the citizens of the district towards the health insurance program introduced by the government under social security is increasing. 48.6 percent of the citizens of the district have availed services from the health insurance program launched with the aim of establishing easy access to health treatment.

The health insurance program was launched in the district from Magh 19, 2076 BS with the aim of ensuring health services by providing quality treatment to the general public. According to the 2078 BS census, the district, which has twelve municipalities, has a population of 246,836.

So far, 119,954 people in the district have taken out health insurance, informed Subash Ghimire, coordinator of the district-based Health Insurance Board. He said that the number of people taking out insurance is increasing as citizens start understanding the importance and effectiveness of the health insurance program introduced by the government.

According to Ghimire, the highest number of citizens in the district, 23,039, from Resunga Municipality and the lowest number, 3,360, from Madane have taken out health insurance. Coordinator Ghimire said that the government is providing free health insurance to senior citizens, HIV-infected people, leprosy patients and complex tuberculosis patients.

There are 16,954 senior citizens (above 70 years of age), 481 from 165 families with HIV, 12 from three families with leprosy, 3,883 from 771 families with ‘A’ category disabilities and complex tuberculosis. The Health Insurance Board, Gulmi, has stated that 25 citizens of the family have availed free health insurance facilities.
