Kathmandu. The Central Zoo in Jawalakhel will operate from 8 pm to 8 am from the New Year 2082 BS.
At a program organized by the zoo here today, Minister for Forests and Environment Ain Bahadur Shahi Thakuri informed that it has been decided to operate the zoo from 8 pm to 8 pm from the upcoming Baisakh 15, as per the demand of the people.
He said, ‘For that, the board of the National Nature Conservation Trust has decided and the necessary preparations and processes have been taken forward.’ The zoo currently operates from 10 am to 5 pm. Inaugurating the nursery and infant feeding room inside the zoo, Minister Shahi mentioned that connecting the zoo premises with nature and wildlife as well as culture and tradition is a positive aspect.
He said that since this zoo is narrow, necessary work is being done to expand it as per the provisions of the open zoo in Suryabinayak. Speaking at the program, Lalitpur Metropolitan City Mayor Chiribabu Maharjan said that the Sadar Zoo is the jewel of Lalitpur and urged everyone to join hands in its promotion.
Also, he informed that since he became the mayor, he has focused on the revival and protection of encroached, destroyed, and buried cultural heritage in Lalitpur. Dr. Ramchandra Kandel, Director General of the Department of National Parks and Wildlife Conservation, said that the zoo is preparing to bring in more rare wildlife from home and abroad and that the department is making the necessary coordination in this regard.
Dr. Naresh Subedi, Member Secretary of the Fund, said that the temple and falcha of the local community’s ancestral deity inside the zoo have been constructed with the aim of connecting nature and culture. He informed that initiatives are being taken to bring lions and zebras to the zoo as per the wishes of the service recipients.
In the program, Chief of the Central Zoo Satyanarayan Sah, Chairman of Lalipur Metropolitan City-4 Santosh Khadka, and Chairman of the local Guthi Rajendra Maharjan mentioned that the construction of the temple of the ancestral deity and the falcha will increase the local ownership in the conservation and promotion of the zoo.
