Talks have begun between the customs officials of the two countries in Kathmandu with a focus on making foreign trade between the two countries more convenient and simpler and controlling illegal trade revenue leakage.
The talks will discuss the issue of providing preliminary information related to export trade in advance between the customs offices of the two countries. Narayan Prasad Regmi, Information Officer of the Customs Department, said that the discussions will focus on implementing an electronic cargo tracking system on cargo containers carrying goods coming from third countries to Nepal via India and exporting goods from Nepal via India to third countries, further strengthening the quality and quarantine check system at border points to test the quality of imported and exported goods.
The discussions also focused on issues such as India recognizing the Certificate of Origin issued electronically through the National Single Window System implemented by Nepal, completing the Integrated Check Points under construction in Bhairahawa and Chandni-Dodhara within the targeted timeframe, and facilitating the quality certification process implemented by India for the export of Nepali products to India. will be held.
The Nepalese negotiating team is led by Mahesh Bhattarai, Director General of the Department of Customs, in the two-day talks on Chaitra 28 and 29. The Indian side is led by Abhay Kumar Srivastava, Director General of the Directorate of Revenue Intelligence. The Nepalese side is represented by senior officials from the Ministry of Finance, Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Ministry of Industry, Commerce and Supplies, Department of Food Technology and Quality Control, Department of Animal and Crop Quarantine, and other agencies. Similarly, the Indian team is represented by the Assistant Director General of the Lucknow Regional Unit of the Directorate of Revenue Intelligence, First Secretary of the Indian Embassy in Nepal, and heads of the Kolkata, Patna, and Lucknow Customs Offices.
