Kathmandu. The five-star Hotel Mercure Kathmandu in Sukedhara has provided financial support to Cancer Care Nepal, which has been providing assistance to underprivileged citizens suffering from cancer. At a program organized here on Monday, Mercure’s owner Deshbandhu Basnet handed over a check of 5 lakhs as support to the organization’s honorary president, actress Manisha Koirala.
Actress Koirala thanked the organization for the support and said that the support will be fruitful and important for cancer patients. He also expressed his hope for a long-term collaboration between the organization and the hotel.
‘This organization has been supporting cancer patients and those who are financially weak for a long time in the field of treatment,’ said actress Koirala. ‘This support from Hotel Makro Kathmandu has helped and encouraged them in their fight against cancer in the coming days.’
Director Basnet said that the hotel has now been established on the land purchased to build an international cancer hospital and he was excited to be able to support cancer patients.
Basnet said, ‘The land was purchased with the aim of building an international-level cancer hospital, but due to various reasons, the hospital could not be built. “It was not possible to build, but today, after the hotel was opened, I am happy to be able to help in the treatment of cancer patients.” He said that he would continue to collaborate with the organization to help cancer patients in the coming days.
Cancer Care Nepal Chairman Dr. Madan Kumar Piya said that for a long time, the organization has been providing free treatment to cancer patients who cannot afford treatment financially. “The organization is working with the aim of helping those who are financially weak and cannot afford cancer treatment or are forced to abandon treatment,” he said.
Founded in 2065 BS, Cancer Care Nepal has been providing treatment to cancer patients as well as spreading awareness about cancer and public health among the general public.
Inauguration of Zakia
On the same occasion, actress Manisha Koirala inaugurated the Indian restaurant Zakia at the hotel. The hotel’s General Manager Vijay Nammaran S said that Zakia Restaurant was launched with the aim of introducing Indian culinary culture to Nepal.
‘Zakia has been launched targeting Indian food lovers, those who like new flavors and are interested in special dishes. The restaurant has special dishes including Murg Shahjahani, Nalli Niharil and Kasundi Jhinga,’ he said.
