Kathmandu. Nepali Congress President Sher Bahadur Deuba has said that India is not in favor of restoring the monarchy in Nepal. Speaking at a seminar on ‘Contribution of former Indian Prime Minister Chandrashekharji to strengthening Nepal-India relations’ organized by the Ganeshman Singh Foundation in Kathmandu on Monday, President Deuba said this.

He said that the rumor that India has raised the issue of restoring the monarchy in Nepal is false. He said that Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has also gone to the Nepali Embassy in New Delhi and clarified that he is not in favor of restoring the monarchy.

Says that Adityanath said that there is no campaign to restore the king, President Deuba said that it is clear that India is in favor of Nepal, republic and democracy. He mentioned that former Indian Prime Minister Chandrashekhar had a great contribution in establishing democracy in Nepal.

He said, ‘He has made a great contribution to establishing democracy in Nepal. At that time, India never wanted democracy in Nepal. After Chandrashekharji came, it was confirmed that India is not against democracy. After that, we even brought a republic through a big movement. Now there are rumors that India has raised it again to restore the monarchy. Adityanath’s photo was even printed here. But what I know is that Adityaji went to our embassy in India and said that I have no hand in it. Whatever the Nepali people want, happens. He himself has said that I am not in favor of bringing in a king. What we feel from that is that India is with Nepal, with the republic, with democracy.’

Says that it has not been many years since the establishment of the republic in Nepal, President Deuba said that it is necessary for political parties to work together to strengthen it.
