Kathmandu. The Health Insurance Board has stated that the first service point has been reached in 356 local levels across the country to implement the health insurance program. This information was given while organizing a press conference at the board’s office on Sunday.
Speaking at the conference, the board’s executive director, Dr. Raghuraj Kafle, informed that the board has its own first service point in 47.7 percent of local levels. He informed that the first service point has not been reached in 397 local levels so far, and the insured service recipients of those local levels are forced to go to another local level nearby to get services.
He informed that comparatively, the first service point of insurance services has reached more in local levels in urban areas and accessible areas. Executive Director Kafle said that the number of insureds who do not renew their insurance is also increasing every year.
According to him, 54 percent did not renew their insurance in 2074/075, 64 percent in 2078/79, and the current fiscal year so far is 54 percent. He said that it is necessary to analyze why people do not renew their insurance after getting insurance once and find a solution.
He said, ‘The first service point has been reached in 356 local levels of the country. That is, the board has its own service point in 47.2 percent of places. The first service point has not been reached in 397 local levels, or 52.7 percent of local levels. The insured in those local levels have to go to another local level nearby to get the first service point. Therefore, the issue of insurance affiliation at the local level has become a matter of question.’
‘When analyzing the condition of the facilities, it is seen that the first service points have been reached at the accessible local level and the first service points are yet to be reached at the comparatively backward local levels. The number of insured persons who did not renew their health insurance was 54 percent in the fiscal year 2074/075. This number was 64 percent in 078/79, while in the current fiscal year 081/82, that number is 54 percent. The question of why they do not renew their insurance once they have been insured is becoming complicated. It seems necessary to identify the reason for the high dropout rate and pay special attention to solving it,’ he said.
He said that due to duplication, it is even difficult to obtain accurate details of the insured. However, he also informed that the number of people who have health insurance receiving health care services is increasing. According to the board’s data, citizens in cities and accessible areas receive more health care services than the target group.
