Nawalparasi. The under-construction postal road from Narayanchowk to Triveni in Bardaghat Municipality-14 has been abandoned for five years. Bajraguru and Mahalaxmi JV Construction had been awarded the contract for the construction of this section.
Pavitramani Acharya, Information Officer of the Postal Highway Directorate, Planning Office, Kapilvastu, informed that only 40 percent of the work has been completed so far, despite being written to three times, regarding the blacktop of 15 kilometers of the road at a cost of Rs. 580 million. Information Officer Acharya said that the contract was terminated after the work was not done despite the request and legal action was taken.
Pratappur Rural Municipality Chairman Umesh Chandra Yadav said that despite repeated hunger strikes and protests to draw attention to the road construction, the work has not progressed.
According to him, when road dust enters the house, the locals around the road are suffering from dust. The dust irritates the eyes and causes chest pain. While working and staying indoors, dust enters the nose and mouth. There is dust around the house. The house that is cleaned in the morning is dusty in the evening. .
Vice-Chairman of Bardaghat Municipality Rudra Prakash Upadhyay said that due to the prolonged non-operation, not only commuters but also local residents have been facing a lot of problems due to the dust and smoke. Dr. Narul Hoda, Chief Medical Superintendent of Prithvi Chandra Hospital, mentioned that the dust from the road is causing problems like respiratory problems, allergies, itchy eyes, and coughing among the residents of the area.
