Kathmandu. Minister for Energy, Water Resources and Irrigation Deepak Khadka has said that the government is working on making laws that will make it easier for the private sector.

At a signing ceremony held last night with China Railway Engineering Company regarding the tunnel boring machine to be used in the 285-megawatt hydropower plant that Tamor Energy Pvt. Ltd. is going to build on the Tamor River in Taplejung, Minister Khadka said that the government wants to develop the energy sector by promoting the private sector.

‘The government wants to make laws that will make it easier for the private sector and to make the country prosperous by collecting as much tax as possible from the private sector. We have brought the law through an ordinance at a rapid pace so that the country can prosper by taking the private sector along,’ he said. .

Minister Khadka stated that the government has set a target of generating 28,500 megawatts of electricity by 2035 and expressed confidence that technology such as tunnel boring machines would help in achieving this target. He said that by using the resources to build a hydropower station, employment will also be created at the local level.

‘The right over resources is equal for all citizens, and the poor class should also be able to use the resources. The government is going to arrange shares of Rs. 200,000 to Rs. 500,000 for the poor and disadvantaged classes by keeping the hydropower project as collateral. The private sector should also be involved in this,’ Minister Khadka said.

He said that the country cannot become prosperous if one class and community becomes rich. Minister Khadka mentioned that Nepal, which is located between India and China, should benefit by attracting investors from both countries.

CPN (UML) Secretary Yogesh Bhattarai said that the development of the energy sector is happening at a rapid pace due to the policies adopted by the government after the change in 2046 BS. He mentioned that the private sector has an important role in the development of Nepal’s energy sector.

Secretary Bhattarai said that with the construction of the Tamor project, Taplejung district, the entire Koshi province and the country will benefit. Pushpajyoti Dhungana, Chairman of Tamor Energy Pvt. Ltd., expressed confidence that this project will play an important role in ending the current load shedding in Nepal.

The project is being built with an investment of Rs 51 billion with a target of completion within the next four years. Of which 12 billion has been invested by investors, Rs 8 billion by public shares, 29 billion by banks and financial institutions, and the remaining Rs 2 billion will be paid after the lights are turned on.

Lu Xiaorong, representative of China Railway Engineering Company, said that the project will be completed on time with everyone’s support and cooperation. He mentioned that his company is continuously working for the economic development of Nepal. The company has so far built more than 100 hydropower projects.
